Ministering in more than 60 nations in the world, SIM teams are often located in places where disasters occur. Whether natural catastrophies such as floods, tsunamis and drought, or political upheavals and war, SIM is often already on the ground ministering among networks of churches and partner organizations.
In order to respond quickly to needs, this Disaster Relief Fund holds resources that can be released immediately for humanitarian crisis needs. SIM's response may involve providing basic necessities for survival such as potable water, food, shelter, clothing, trauma counselling, medical services, rescue and transport. Relief aid items are sourced from within the country or region as much as possible in order to lower costs and boost the local economy. This fund may be used for evacuations and to transport emergency workers. Responses are always coordinated with other agencies and churches with whom disaster protocols and procedures have already been put in place.
